In January 2016 Joss Livesey, from set off on an ambitious, world first, man-powered, 17,000-mile journey to the highest point of all 42 sovereign states of continental Europe, traveling as high as possible by bike and continuing on foot when the road ended. Joss will be at the festival delivering a presentation on the journey, from the highs (pun intended) to the lows.

Joss, from Sedbergh Cumbria, sought a unique and challenging, solo, long distance expedition, encapsulating his love of adventure, travel, cycling and mountaineering.

His ‘PEDALS2PINNACLES’ expedition was born!

Six weeks after conceiving his idea, Joss rolled his fully loaded Genesis touring bike out of Porto, complete with Ortlieb Panniers filled with mountaineering equipment and everything he needed to live on the road for 10 months. What transpired was a journey of perseverance, countless adventures and encounters of incredible human kindness in unlikely places.

His experiences included the trials of climbing Europe’s highest peaks in the Alps and Caucasus, saving a friend’s life during a terrifying accident in Romania’s Transylvanian Alps, being rescued by local people after damaging his bike in the remote Western Steppe of Russia and living on the road in extreme winter conditions.

Book tickets for The Adventure Cycling Festival to hear about these escapades and many more through Joss’ pictures, films and stories.
