The Highland Trail 550 is quickly becoming seen as one of the most challenging self-supported off-road bikepacking events in the world. 2017 will see Pete McNeil from Adventure Pedlars attempting the route, and he has kindly agreed to give us an account of his experience on his way back to their Peaks HQ.

Pete McNeil started Adventure Pedlars after returning from cycling to New Zealand together with his newly wed wife Alice. Better known as the McNeils on Wheels, they documented their journey as they toured across the globe.

Both Pete and Alice live and breathe adventure cycling and are superb ambassadors for the community.

Forever pushing his limits, this year Pete will take part in the now infamous Highland 550.

From bikepacking.com:

The Highland Trail explores 550 miles of the most rugged and remote terrain in the Scottish Highlands. The route features world class singletrack and dirt roads with stunning views throughout, but you must put in some serious effort to reap the rewards. The most impressive sections will require some hike-a-bike for even the most proficient mountain bikers.
